While the NFL is in the middle of its most dead period of the offseason, the 2024-2025 NBA season just came to a close with the Oklahoma City Thunder winning their first championship since the team moved away from Seattle and rebranded from the Supersonics.
It’s always cool to see history being made in that fashion. The loyal fans and all their emotional and financial investment in the franchise finally had it pay off and you just have to feel for them greatly, especially if you’re also a fan of a sports franchise that has yet to win the final game of the season.
With that in mind, we kick off this week’s edition of The Skinny Post by discussing the franchises we both want to see win their first Super Bowl and those we hope to not see elevate the Lombardi Trophy anytime soon.
Let’s go ahead and dive in.
Which franchise do you want to see win their first Super Bowl in 2025?
Michael:
As the resident fan of one of those teams who have yet to take home a Lombardi Trophy (Go Chargers, baby), that would be my obvious answer. If I wasn’t picking my Bolts, then I think I’d go with the Bills because dang, that championship game history is crazy sad.
Despite going to four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991-1994, they did not come away with a single win. Coincidentally, they were downed each time by a team from the NFC East (Giants, Washington, and twice by your Cowboys).
Can you imagine the pain of that franchsie? Watching your team from the very first regular season game to the very last possible game a team could play in for four years in a row? All the suspense and anxiety fighting through four entire postseasons only to never win that final game?
Kudos to the entire fan base for still being such an energetic and loyal group. Jumping through tables and all. Bills Mafia deserves a Lombardi Trophy and I hope newly married Josh Allen finally gets the job done and adds a different type of ring to his hand this season.
RJ:
I’ll say that if I must pick a team that has never won a Super Bowl that is most likely to win it that Buffalo is certainly at the very top of the list. Well ahead of Detroit in my opinion.
I do wonder at what point the wheels fall off, though. It felt like we started to see that a couple of seasons ago when things got rocky and then they obviously stabilized. People love to (correctly) point out how Kansas City is the thorn in their side, but if we all believe that the Bengals are going to return to proper form then they might be the ultimate team to watch out for in that sense.
The fans are amazing. I definitely think they deserve one.
It’s just so hard to say it is anyone’s year.
Which franchise do you LEAST want to see win a Super Bowl in 2025?

RJ:
The Philadelphia Eagles are literally reigning Super Bowl Champions so I feel like I have already lived out my nightmare. Nothing else can hurt me. I am the resident Dallas Cowboys person around here, by the way.
The Washington Commanders would check that chalk box so I suppose that is my answer. But it feels so boring.
I don’t particularly hate any non-NFC East teams, but I do love reminding San Francisco 49ers fans that despite their success – they have had plenty – their Super Bowl drought is still longer than the Cowboys’.
SF it is!
Michael:
It should be no surprise in the slightest that I would sacrifice a lot of things in my life to not have to see the Chiefs win another Super Bowl for a long, long time. The Eagles decimating Kansas City in the most recent championship game was DELICIOUS and truly helped ease the pain of watching another postseason run by the Chiefs on the AFC side.
Two other teams that I could stand not seeing raise a Lombardi Trophy anytime soon would be the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams. The Bengals because I need Justin Herbert to build his resume closer to Joe Burrow’s (you know, the whole 2020 quarterback class connection) and the Rams because they’re the crosstown rival who also plays inside SoFi Stadium. I’m being a massive hater here and I’m perfectly okay with that.
How worried should the Browns be about Shedeur Sanders on a scale of 1-10?

Michael:
When you discuss these things in a vacuum, then no, I don’t think a pair of speeding tickets in such short succession has any relevance on the future potential for Sanders as an NFL quarterback. However, how many former and current superstars do you recall starting their career on such off-footing? Legal trouble of any kind is not a good thing and it normally isn’t just a small blip on the radar of a career. If there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
So this might seem unreasonable, but I’m going with an eight here. I don’t think this is a nothing-burger. Sanders knows better and I’m surprised he is the one between him and his brother getting into legal trouble. His father told reporters prior to his first season at Colorado that Shedeur is in his phone as “Grown” because he’s always been mature beyond his years.
I don’t know if that’s the case anymore. I hope I’m very wrong, but I don’t think any of this bodes well for the young quarterback.
RJ:
Ultimately I do not want to be in the business of judging someone else on any level. We all make mistakes and should all be allowed forgiveness. That is a big view of mine on life at large.
Relative to the operations of the Cleveland Browns, obviously you would prefer for there to be other headlines around someone who you just had join your team… especially someone who might one day be the face of it.
It is important that, as I understand it, no one was harmed and that all is well. It stands to reason that there is some change that may need to happen here.
It is at best a very frustrating situation to deal with. That is never good.
What is your dream NFL stadium to visit?

RJ:
We are at a point in time where a lot of people are planning trips that they are going to take in the fall.
Maybe you are planning a trip to see your favorite NFL team play or perhaps doing the same on a college football scale. Whatever the case may be, for today’s purposes we are looking at the professional level.
In that spirit… what is your dream stadium to visit? I’m fortunate to have been to a few, but I think the one that I most want to see right now is probably Arrowhead. There is something to the prestige and whatnot and the area is so cool. I think that would be a blast.
A take of mine though is that I think I would want to see a Chiefs game that wasn’t against the Cowboys. Obviously the Cowboys would be cool, but I think the environment would truly rule if it was against say the Raiders.
Michael:
Believe it or not, I have yet to visit SoFi Stadium in my five seasons of covering the Chargers. Until that happens, SoFi is at the top of the list. I need to see this Oculus board with my own eyes. I need to experience the game atmosphere surrounded by the powder blue and gold.
If I had to pick another stadium, I think attending a game at Lambeau Field would one on the bucket list. The tradition and history of a place like that seems like something that just needs to be experienced.
Count me in for the cheese curds, too.
