‘The Bear’ characters as pro athletes, featuring Tom Brady and Luka Doncic

There’s a lot going on in the world of sports right now. The NBA Draft is on Wednesday night, the NHL Draft is on Friday, and the MLB All-Star Game is around the corner — but this is also the week where the fourth season of The Bear hits Hulu, and honestly, we just like talking about The Bear.

Unquestionably one of the greatest shows in the history of television, The Bear’s exploration of generational trauma, and relationships through the lens of a restaurant is second-to-none. The cast of characters are as much a team as anything in sports, and everyone has an analog to a real world athlete — if you think about it enough.

Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto: Tom Brady

An absolute genius at what he does. Carmy and Brady both worked themselves up from nothing to become GOATs in their respective fields. That comes at a cost though, and that’s a willingness to destroy personal relationships to stay on top. Has a difficult time relating to teammates.

Sydney Adamu: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The quiet leader. Sydney is secretly the person everyone looks to for leadership. Both are always trying to hone their craft to be the best, but their ability to always stay calm under pressure might be their greatest trait.

Richard “Richie” Jerimovich: Luka Doncic

Can definitely be a huge player on the right team, but there’s a level of worry that he’s always going to be too much about vibes to reach his full potential.

Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto: Mike Tomlin

Is given the impossible, thankless task of keeping this mess together despite continually being asked to do way too much. Unfairly criticized when things go wrong, nobody would blame either for just walking out at this point.

Marcus Brooks: Nikola Jokic

The big man in the middle. Marcus is always surprising you with something different he pulls out of a hat, while also being the ultimate glue guy for the kitchen.

Neil Fak: Jimmy Butler

Most likely to cause a fire by trying to wire something on his own. Impossible to hate, will make you laugh, will make you facepalm some times — but it’s all about the effortless charm at the end of the day.

Tina Marrero: Michèle Mouton

After more than a decade working in an office, Tina Marrero was let go from her steady position. That forced her to change careers, putting her on a path to The Bear.

Michèle Mouton set out to become a lawyer and was in school when she dropped out to pursue a career in Rally Car. She won four races over her career, and finished second in the Drivers’ Championship during the 1982 season. Like Tina, Mouton shows that once you find your place in life, you can flourish.

Ebraheim: Joe Flacco

A veteran presence that, despite attempting to walk away from his role, knows where he belongs and keeps coming back, simply going about his business.

Sweeps: Yuki Tsunoda

Was just happy to be part of the team until he was called on to take a bigger role. Now he’s found a love for things and is living his best life. Also wants to be a chef one day.

Uncle Jimmy: Flavio Briatore

A main financial backer behind the operation. But seems ready to pull the plug at any moment, despite a soft spot for those involved in the restaurant.
