Nico Harrison’s quote about drafting Cooper Flagg somehow makes him even easier to hate

Nico Harrison, the idiot general manager of the Dallas Mavericks has been justifiably mocked for months over the decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. It was an unquestionably stupid move, matched only in its stupidity by the organization’s back-bending efforts to shield Harrison from criticism.

Then, in the greatest bailout since the banking crisis, Dallas magically won the No. 1 overall pick with a 1.8% chance, giving them the ability to draft Cooper Flagg, one of the most game-changing prospects in the modern era. One would think it might lead to a little humility from Harrison, but hell no.

Somehow Harrison is now trying to take credit for the luck of the draw in the NBA Draft lottery, as if his peerless genius to trade away a superstar was the bold move needed to turn things around. Forget the fact he turned the team from a NBA Finals contender into one of the worst in the league in one season, it was a big, bold move and he should be credited for it.

Harrison’s ego knows no bounds. He’s the managerial equivalent of a person who lights a fire, then tripped over the pail of water that put it out — now he wants to be hailed as a hero. Make no mistake: Even though the Luka trade indirectly led to the Mavs getting Flagg they should still fire Nico Harrison.
